I am privileged to move and dine with a rich circle of elderly folks; men and women full of grace, clarity, and truth. Their company is free from guile and strife, not because they’ve become indifferent about life, but because they’ve gained perspective. They’ve lived through enough to know what truly matters.
Like great oaks, they are deeply rooted, calm, steady, and seasoned. Yet, they’re not closed off to nourishing the new. On the contrary, they’re often fascinated by fresh talent, especially when it mirrors the brilliance of their colleague from the past or reminds them of their own younger selves. They support with quiet strength and generous encouragement. Through them, I’m constantly reminded of the value of legacy, humility, and building relationships that endure.
So when I saw my King, The Asantehene, sharing nostalgic moments with Presidents Mahama, Akufo-Addo, and Kufuor, it struck me deeply!
I've been wondering; "Who will we, the younger generation, grow old with?"
When all we seem to do is tear each other down with pride, ego, and nkwasiasɛm bebiree? My soul is troubled as I wonder how we navigate as sojourners with no sensibilities for Others! We seem not to see it's a vain world to apply our hearts to the wisdom of numbering our days!
There is something deeply broken among us and I pray God heals us to endure one another’s flaws, to hold each other in grace, and to welcome one another with humility.
This is a conversation I’ll be expanding further in my next book. It’s one we need to have and soon…
