President John Dramani Mahama has put forward two nominees for the roles of Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) in the Central Region, awaiting confirmation by their respective local Assemblies.
The nominations, made in accordance with Article 243(1) of the 1992 Constitution and Section 20(1) of the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936), were announced in an official statement issued on Wednesday, May 28, by the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs.
Rev. Atta Mensah has been nominated to head the Effutu Municipal Assembly, while Gariba Adam is the President’s choice for the Assin Central Municipal Assembly.
The statement, signed by Minister Ahmed Ibrahim, clarified that the appointments are provisional and will take effect only if endorsed by the respective Assemblies, as stipulated by law.
These nominations mark the beginning of formal processes within the Effutu and Assin Central Assemblies, which will soon convene to vote on whether to confirm or reject the President’s choices. The move is seen as part of ongoing efforts to reinforce local governance structures and promote development through decentralised leadership.
