The Minister for the Interior, Mr. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has called on Christian religious leaders in Tamale to collaborate closely with the government in promoting peace, security, and social cohesion across the country.

Speaking during a meeting with prominent Christian clerics on Thursday, in Tamale, he emphasized the important role of synergy between the government and religious leaders in tackling the nation's pressing challenges.

He stressed that this partnership is important not only for the Northern Region but for the stability of the entire country.

He highlighted the alarming rise of drug abuse, particularly among the youth and urged the clerics to utilize their influential positions from the pulpit to deliver messages of hope, resilience, and personal responsibility, aiming to counteract this trend.

The Minister invited the religious leaders to partner with the Narcotics Control Commission (NACO) to establish good counseling and rehabilitation programs aimed at assisting individuals struggling with addiction.

Mr. Muntaka appealed for continued collaboration between the clerics and the National Peace Council, encouraging them to play active roles in mediating conflicts and preventing any potential escalation into armed violence

The meeting was attended by representatives from the Local Council of Churches, including the Catholic Secretariat, the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council, the National Council of Charismatic and Christian Churches, the Christian Council of Ghana, and the Network of Independent Churches.
