
The City of London, especially, the East and South East areas, will this year host the long awaited and most sought after event within the Africa communities in the UK, the 2nd Annual African Film Festival and Academy Awards, ZAFAA 2007. The event which is the first of its kind in the UK is being organised in honour of Africa Filmmakers who have contributed immensely to the development and progress of the African Film Industry up until this day. It is also to reward those who performed excellently in various roles played in films released in the year 2006 and 2007.

FILM FESTIVAL
The African Film Festival also known as ZAFAA is the highly regarded and anticipated film event within the African Communities in the UK's cultural calendar at present, attracting leading international filmmakers, industry professionals and the media together with large public audiences to London for a four day showcase of the best cinema from Africa from 2nd – 5th October 2007. This year's festival is expected to attract some 10,000 visitors or more because of the interest generated from last years. Countries that have confirmed their participation at the festival and awards are as follows:
a) Ghana
b) Nigeria
c) Uganda
d) Rwanda
e) Kenya
f) Zambia
g) Tanzania
The Festival will screen a selection of New African fiction and documentary features, African artists' film and video as well as short African films from African Film makers.
FILM CONFERENCE
The Second component of this event is the African Film Conference. This is also a four day conference running from 2nd – 5th October 2007, from 11am to 3pm during the four day period. The conference is for African Film makers to acquaint themselves with Modern Film Gadgetry, Current Filming Trends, amongst others topics to the large array of African film stars who will be present for this all important educative conference. In addition, it will be a forum that will offer much needed impetus for creative exchange and discussion among filmmakers. A total number of three-hundred film makers are expected at the four day conference.
AFRICAN FILM ACADEMY AWARDS
The third and final component of the event is the 2nd Annual African Film Academy Awards.
The awards dubbed “Africa's Oscar” will take place on Saturday 6th October 2007 at the new multi-million pound state of the art venue, THE TROXY in East London. This is being organised in honour of African Film makers who have contributed to the development and progress of the African Film Industry over the years in diverse ways and also to reward those who have been outstanding in the roles performed in films during the year 2006 and 2007 whether on the continent or in the Diasporas.

The Audience Award
Two new Awards: “The Cultural Heritage Award” and the “Mother Tongue Awards” have been created by the organisers and would be one of the highly competitive awards. The Cultural Heritage Award will go to the best film that portrayed Africa's rich culture in 2006 and this year 2007. The Mother Tongue Award on the other hand is for films set in any African Language which storyline reveals an “educative content with a view to raise awareness of the said content”
The highest Award is the Appreciation Award. This is the Award for Fellow Africans who have contributed immensely to the development and progress of the African Film Industry up until this day. The Appreciation Award shall be conferred on individuals whose country will represent at the Festival this year as well as subsequent ones. We are very much aware that many have been instrumental in this very area and in other not to run before walk, the organisers have decided to confer the award on one person per country each year.
The question now remains, WHO in GHANA will receive the 2007 African Film Academy Appreciation Award in London?
This is surely one event no African in London especially Ghanaians, would want to miss out.
