Former President John Dramani Mahama has quickly clarified his cash donation to quell any speculation.
Taking a cue from the controversy surrounding Sammy Gyamfi’s dollar gift incident, the President indicated that the money he dashed a traditional dancer was Ghana cedi notes.
While speaking at the Old Ghanata Astroturf in Dodowa on Friday, May 16, during his ‘Thank You Tour’, Mahama handed money to a dancer who had performed at the event.
“To put on record that the money I have was GH₵500 not dollars,” he said.
The quick clarification sort to further diffuse comparisons to the public backlash against Sammy Gyamfi, the acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), who came under fire for gifting U.S. dollars to Agradaa.
Following the backlash, Gyamfi issued a public apology. Mahama, while accepting the apology, advised him to exercise greater caution and discretion in the future.
