NPP's Chairman Buga Buga blasts Hajia Shani Mahama to be 'faithful' to husband and 'not roam like an Ashanti woman'

Alhaji Osman Masawudu, affectionately called Chairman Buga Buga, the Third National Vice Chairman of the opposition NPP, has lashed out at Hajia Abibata Shani Mahama, former CEO of MASLOC, calling her names and denigrating Akans in the process.

He spoke during an appearance in the Northern Region on the NPP's Thank You Tour, his comments creating more divisions within the party and courting public disaffection for same.

In a viral audio tape, Chairman Buga Buga was heard saying to Hajia Abibata “you walk about aimlessly like an Asante woman,” while admonishing her as a married woman to stay home and take care of her children and husband.

Reports indicate that earlier, Chairman Buga verbally abused Hajia Abibata in the presence of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia until Dominic Nitiwul intervened. Dr Bawumia’s ability to be firm and decisive when necessary has been questioned following allegations by his former aide Rosemond Obeng.

Asantes form a significant part of the NPP’s core base, and appear to be the target of Chairman Buga Buga's utterance. Should Dr. Bawumia fail to decisively address this tense situation, it could worsen divisions within the NPP.
