Veteran statesman and founding member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Nyaho Nyaho Tamakloe, has issued a strong warning to President John Dramani Mahama, insisting that the Ghanaian public will not forgive him if he fails to prosecute officials from the previous Akufo-Addo administration found guilty of stealing public funds.

Speaking during an interview on TV3’s Hot Issues on Sunday, May 4, Dr. Tamakloe expressed outrage over the corruption allegations levelled against Kwabena Adu-Boahene, the former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau. Adu-Boahene, along with his wife and two others, is facing ten charges including stealing, causing financial loss to the state, and money laundering.

According to prosecutors, Adu-Boahene dishonestly appropriated approximately GH¢49.1 million under the guise of procuring a cyber defense system for the state.

Dr. Tamakloe did not hold back his condemnation, asserting that anyone found guilty of stealing from the nation must face justice without exception.

“But the boys there now, their interest is not the development of this country. Their interest is to come and steal and make money,” he stated.

Referring specifically to the case of Adu-Boahene, he added:

“Look at that young Adu-Boahene. Look at the sort of charges that have been brought against him. I can't believe it. And the crafty way with which they get the money, they thought it would never be traced.”

He stressed that failure by President Mahama to prosecute such individuals would have lasting political consequences.

“I have warned President Mahama if he fail to prosecute these people who have stolen money, I'm telling you, he will never be forgiven,” Dr. Tamakloe cautioned.

Meanwhile, an Accra High Court on Friday, May 2 ordered Adu-Boahene to be remanded into the custody of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) for seven working days. This remand, according to the court, is to allow the Attorney-General’s Office to finalise witness statements for the case.

Dr. Tamakloe is set to launch a new book in celebration of his birthday on May 7, 2025. The event will take place at Christ The King Church, near the Jubilee House, at 3 p.m.
