President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Mrs. Matilda Asante-Asiedu as the Second Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana, in accordance with Section 17 of the Bank of Ghana Act, 2002 (Act 612) as amended.
The appointment, announced on Monday, April 28, 2025, forms part of the President’s efforts to strengthen the leadership of the central bank.
Mrs. Asante-Asiedu brings a wealth of experience to the role, having built an impressive career as a Chartered Banker and a seasoned corporate leader. Prior to her appointment, she served as Group Head of Retail Banking at Access Bank Ghana PLC, where she was instrumental in driving growth and enhancing customer experience.
Her academic background is equally distinguished. Mrs. Asante-Asiedu holds an MBA in Marketing from the GIMPA Business School (2021) and an MA in Journalism Studies from Cardiff University (2005). Additionally, she earned diplomas in Journalism from the Ghana Institute of Journalism (1997) and in Politics and Public Affairs Reporting from the International Institute of Journalism in Berlin (2000). She further solidified her banking credentials by becoming a Chartered Executive Banker through CIB-Ghana in 2024.
To bolster her leadership skills, Mrs. Asante-Asiedu has participated in executive programmes at prestigious institutions including the Saïd Business School at Oxford University (2023), the Wharton School (2015), and Marquette University’s Les Aspin Centre (2003).
The appointment was formally announced by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, MP, and Spokesperson to the President, who emphasized Mrs. Asante-Asiedu’s extensive expertise and leadership as assets that will contribute significantly to the central bank’s mandate.
Her appointment is widely seen as a strategic move to ensure strong, experienced leadership within the Bank of Ghana as the institution continues to navigate the evolving economic landscape.
