A wave of unrest swept through the Binduri District in the Upper East Region on Thursday, April 24, 2025, following the rejection of the President’s nominee for District Chief Executive (DCE).
The dramatic turn of events was marked by an alleged physical attack on Samuel Azure, the newly elected Presiding Member and Assemblyman for the Kaadi Electoral Area.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred shortly after assembly members voted overwhelmingly against the nominee. Tensions had been building ahead of the vote, and the situation quickly escalated once the results were announced.

Mr. Azure, who played a key role in presiding over the session, was reportedly assaulted in the immediate aftermath. Though the motive for the attack remains unclear, the incident has raised alarms over growing political friction in the district.
Details surrounding the identities of the attackers and the circumstances of the assault remain sketchy. No official statement has yet been released by the Binduri District Assembly or law enforcement authorities.
The assembly is now expected to determine the next steps in filling the DCE position, as the failed confirmation leaves a leadership gap in the district’s administration. Meanwhile, residents and observers are calling for calm and urging authorities to ensure that the matter is thoroughly investigated and that order is restored.
