Minority Leader in Parliament and MP for Effutu, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has underscored the need to support indigenous businesses to tackle Ghana’s growing unemployment crisis.
He said empowering local enterprises is key to unlocking job opportunities and ensuring sustainable economic development across the country.
Speaking at the Kwahu Business Forum on Saturday, April 19, Mr. Afenyo-Markin stressed the critical link between local entrepreneurship, access to finance, and job creation.
“When we empower local businesses with the capital and confidence they need to grow, we do more than boost productivity. We open up the pathways for job creation,” he stated.
The Minority Leader further noted that building a resilient financial ecosystem that supports indigenous businesses must be seen as a national priority.
“In a country where youth unemployment remains one of our most urgent national challenges, building a strong and inclusive financial ecosystem is not just an economic imperative, it is also a social one as well,” he added.
He maintained that the active participation of the private sector, especially local businesses, will be vital for Ghana’s future.
First launched in 2024, the forum seeks to create a vibrant platform for networking, idea-sharing, and investment opportunities, especially for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), which constitute the backbone of the country's economy.
