The Berekum East Municipal Assembly has approved the President's nominee, Hajia Fatimatu Abubakar as the Berekum Municipal Chief Executive.
The 38-Member Assembly voted 100 percent 'yes' in an election conducted and supervised by the Electoral Commission in Berekum in the Bono Region.
Mr Prince Adade, the Assembly Member (AM) for Kutre Number Two Electoral Area was also elected as the Presiding Member, securing 33 'yes' votes after his only contender, Bright Yamoah, the AM for the Awerempe Electoral Area withdrew from the race.
However, a misunderstanding between Mr Simon Ampaabeng Kyeremeh, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Berekum East Constituency and Mr Kwaku Hinneh, the Berekum East Constituency Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) nearly marred the beauty of the elections.
It was over the inclusion of certain government appointees in the polls, which some of the party members alleged were not members of the NDC in the constituency however the police intervened quickly to calm down nerves for the exercise to continue.
In her acceptance speech, Hajia Abubakar expressed gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama for her nomination and thanked the AMs for her subsequent confirmation.
She pledged to work together with all the stakeholders, especially the AMs and the traditional authorities for the speedy development of the municipality.
