A Politically Motivated Attempt To Remove The Chief Justice By President Mahama And The NDC

In all sincerity, I feel for Ghana's democracy under the watch of President Mahama on his capricious and politically motivated attempts to remove the Chief Justice for no tangible and concrete reasons.

Why do I say so? This is a well-orchestrated agenda to please and make NDC members happy, and nothing short of that.

Indeed, the government is on a populist move, and Ghanaians would begin to regret voting for the so-called resetting of the Country.

How do you reset a Country with this whimsical and capricious approach? Ghana's democracy is under threat and at the same time on a nosedive looking at the posture of President Mahama and his cohorts.

The Chief Justice, who is the head of the Judiciary, has been a target of the NDC administration led by President Mahama for skewed and unsubstantiated allegations.

Her ladyship, the Chief Justice, has conducted herself very well ever since she was appointed by the Former President, Nana Addo, with a great sense of magnanimity and integrity.

Without any shred of doubt, the NDC has sponsored some individuals to come up with these frivolous and unsubstantiated allegations that can't stand the test of time, all to tarnish the hard-earned reputation of the respected Chief Justice.

Before the 2024 general elections, the NDC promised their members to fire and remove the EC Chairperson and the Chief Justice since, according to their thoughts, they were a stumbling block to their triumph.

This narrative boils down to the NDC's lack of respect and honor for judiciary processes, and they were on the Judiciary anytime they lost a case at the Supreme Court and others.

But, how does one win a case in court based on emotions and insults? This was the actions of the NDC as a political. The NDC always had challenges in Court due to their fixation on plain insults and maligning of personalities.

What's imperative for Ghanaians to know is that the NPP believes in our judiciary system and has been meticulous for the past years when it comes to respect and value of the Judiciary and Justices of the Supreme Court.

The NDC has been noted for the incessant attacks on our Judiciary system and it's no news since they even went to the extreme of labeling the Supreme Court Judges as unanimous FC anytime they lost a case.

Interestingly, the only time the NDC and their Party footsoldiers won't take our respected Judges to the cleanest is when a case goes in their favor. However, isn't it absurd and nauseating, to say the least? Yes, it's and that's the character of the National Democratic Congress, NDC.

Fast forward to the meat of this piece, I find it mind-blowing and shocking for a communique released by the government Communication to the effect that three people have petitioned for the removal of the Chief Justice, which Mr. President has forwarded to the Council of State members, for consultation.

I was dumbfounded, and I equally couldn't believe it, but the source from which it came made me feel sad for Ghana under the reign of President Mahama and the NDC.

Ordinarily, why should the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces play to the gallery like that only to please NDC footsoldiers? Is this the reset agenda the President promised Ghanaians? Your guess is as good as mine.

In addition, I see this calculated move by the President to remove the revered Chief Justice as a knee-jerk one since we have other pressing issues he has to show unparalleled leadership, i.e., galamsey and bread and butter issues.

Mr. President, don't succumb to the pressures from your Party loyalists to subject the Chief Justice to this unfair treatment because the tangent you want to move on will spell doom for the Country as a First gentleman of the land.

For fairness and objectivity, what will you achieve with such a devastating move to axed her as the Chief Justice? Or do you just want to please your Party apparatchiks who are on your neck to do it?

Realistically, the court is not a place to play with your emotions but an avenue where hardcore evidence is the heart of everything. Therefore, it's quite unfortunate for such a move to drag the name of the Chief Justice into the mud of your Party's lack of insight and understanding of the laws governing our democratic principles and values.

Truth be told, the NDC wouldn't be in power forever and this bad precedent you want to set for the Country will mar the beauty of our judiciary system in the Country. Let's be guided and act accordingly as citizens with the interest of the Country.

With all due respect, Mr. President, let your conscience be the guide for you and it's never too late to act following the laid down rules and regulations governing our Country and not this whimsical and capricious ways of handling very sensitive matters.

I was really appalled and taken aback when I chanced on the release from the government Communication yesterday, Monday, March 25, 2025, from Hon. Felix Kwakye Ofosu, and it confirmed the long-held agenda to kick the Chief Justice out of office.

Ghana's judiciary system has been acknowledged and commended for the impartial and swift manner in which cases are being dealt with, especially high-profile cases of great concern to the Nation.

In effect, I still can't imagine the kind of bad precedent President Mahama wants to leave as a legacy by sacking people left, right, and center without any recourse to our rule of law, justice, and fairness.

Power is transient and it should serve as a guide for President Mahama to quickly fix the mess he has created ever since he became the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces.

How does the sacking of the IGP and other high-profile Security Chiefs bring to the reset agenda hinged on the 24-hour economy? Will that create sustainable jobs for the youth?

To further state, the concentration on how to bring light to the gargantuan promises should be the headache of the President and not the sacking spree he has embarked upon to please some individuals within the circles of NDC.

You may sack to please your footsoldiers but what they need are jobs to bring body and soul together. How many will be employed once she is sacked from office as Chief Justice?

In Conclusion, We are on a slippery slope and President Mahama's reset agenda can't be what's transpiring in the Country with all attempts to silence critiques of the government through intimidation and barbaric harassment of innocent people. Ghanaians deserve the best not this populist way of governance.

God save Ghana!
Shalom!
