Inspector General of Police (IGP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno has reassigned Superintendent Emmanuel Eric Gyebi and Superintendent George Lysander Asare to new roles within the Ghana Police Service.
Superintendent Gyebi has been transferred to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters, while Superintendent Asare has been assigned to the Judicial Protection Unit.
The two officers were implicated in a leaked tape detailing an alleged plot to remove former IGP Dr. George Akuffo Dampare. Their subsequent appearance before a parliamentary committee investigating the matter raised concerns about their professionalism and conduct within the service.
Following its deliberations, the committee recommended disciplinary action against the officers for their involvement in the controversy. However, instead of facing punitive measures, they have been reassigned to critical roles within the police service—a decision that has sparked widespread debate.
Sources within the police force suggest that the move has been met with skepticism, with some officers viewing it as a reward rather than a consequence for their actions. Concerns have also been raised about the impact on accountability and ethical standards within the service.
While some argue that the reassignments were made to maintain stability within the force, others fear that it may send the wrong message regarding disciplinary enforcement. The decision has fueled discussions on whether the police leadership is committed to upholding professionalism and integrity within its ranks.
