Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Dr. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, has strongly dismissed allegations made by Minority Leader Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin that security operatives stole money and jewellery during a recent search of the residence of former Bank of Ghana Governor, Dr. Ernest Addison.
Addressing the press on Monday, March 24, 2025, Dr. Ayine described the accusations as false and baseless, insisting they were an insult to law enforcement officers conducting their duties.
"If Afenyo-Markin is daring me, I will make that recording available, so he should resist maligning law enforcement officers who are conducting investigations, and myself for the work we are doing," he stated.
He added, "Afenyo-Markin should not abuse his parliamentary immunity by labelling or defaming public officials who are carrying out legally sanctioned public business.”
His reaction follows claims made by Afenyo-Markin during a press conference on Thursday, March 20, 2025, where he alleged that security operatives took GHS10,000 in cash and jewellery belonging to Dr. Addison’s wife during the operation.
"Some GHS10,000 on his bed could not be found. The governor's wife's earrings and necklaces were also not traced. In other words, those operatives stole these earrings and necklaces.
“They couldn't be found. In other words, those operatives stole these earrings and necklaces. Ghana is a matured democracy, and we should do better,” he stated.
