The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has stated that the lack of active water hydrants in Kumasi's Central Business District significantly hindered their ability to combat the severe fire outbreak at Adum PZ.
Despite facing difficulties with inadequate fire trucks, the GNFS believes that nearby water hydrants would have allowed them to respond more effectively.
According to Ashanti Regional Fire Commander ACFO II Peter Tetteh, effective firefighting requires sufficient equipment.
He urged stakeholders to ensure that water hydrants are installed in strategic locations throughout the Kumasi Metropolis and its surrounding areas. Tetteh also highlighted the need to protect existing hydrants to enhance firefighting efforts.
This appeal follows public concerns regarding the GNFS's response to the Adum PZ fire incident. In response, the GNFS has been working to address these challenges, including linking fire hydrants to GPS for easier identification.
