The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Ashanti Regional Parliamentary Caucus has called on the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, to immediately investigate the recurring market fires in the region.
The call follows a devastating fire outbreak at the Adum Central Market in Kumasi in the early hours of Friday, March 21.
The fire, which was difficult for personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service to control, destroyed several shops and jeopardized the livelihoods of numerous traders and business owners.
In a statement signed by the MP for Old Tafo and Secretary to the caucus, Vincent Ekow Assafuah, the caucus expressed deep sorrow and solidarity with the affected individuals.
“We call on the Minister for the Interior to take immediate steps to investigate these recurring fires in the region and implement comprehensive measures to prevent further occurrences,” the statement read.
It added, “The Ashanti Caucus in Parliament expresses deep sorrow over the devastating fire that recently razed a building adjacent to the Old Central Market in Kumasi, destroying several shops and jeopardizing the livelihoods of numerous traders and business owners. We extend our heartfelt sympathies to all affected individuals and families who have suffered immense losses due to this unfortunate incident.”
The caucus noted that the latest fire outbreak is part of a troubling pattern of increasing fire incidents in the Ashanti Region, which continue to wreak havoc on businesses and the local economy.

Clueless MP. Have you advised your people to procure personal fire extinguishers for their shops, and to undergo training on how to use them when fires begin? This is the simple remedy, but educated dunderheads keep suffering on a weekly basis
