Several police officers have been celebrating the appointment of Christian Tetteh Yohuno as the new Inspector General of Police (IGP), expressing excitement over the leadership change.
IGP Yohuno was sworn into office by President John Dramani Mahama on Friday, March 14, at the Jubilee House, officially taking over from Dr. George Akuffo Dampare.
Following his swearing-in, he visited the Police Headquarters, where officers jubilantly welcomed him, cheering and expressing optimism about his leadership.
In a dramatic display of excitement, some officers were seen spraying money on the newly appointed IGP, a gesture symbolizing their approval and support for his appointment.
Amid the celebrations, some personnel openly criticized former IGP Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, referring to him as a “tyrant” and a “dictator.” They claimed his removal had “freed” the police service from his leadership style.
The strong reactions highlight a shift in expectations as officers anticipate a different approach to policing and administration under IGP Yohuno.
His appointment comes as part of a broader effort to restructure law enforcement and enhance public safety nationwide.
