President John Dramani Mahama has called on newly appointed Inspector General of Police (IGP), COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno, to make the welfare of police officers a top priority.

Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony at Jubilee House on Friday, March 14, President Mahama underscored the importance of a well-supported police force in ensuring national security and public safety.

“I want to stress the need to improve the welfare of officers under your command,” he stated.

He emphasized the demanding nature of policing and the need for officers to receive the necessary support and recognition for their sacrifices.

“Policing is an arduous profession that demands unwavering commitment. It is only fair that those who dedicate their lives to protecting the nation are adequately compensated and supported,” he added.

The President pointed to key areas that require urgent attention, including fair remuneration, decent housing, comprehensive healthcare, and psychological support services. He stressed that improving these conditions would not only enhance morale within the force but also improve service delivery.

“A motivated police force is a productive police force,” he noted.

President Mahama urged IGP Yohuno to prioritize these concerns, highlighting the direct impact of officer welfare on overall police performance.

“When our officers are supported, they can carry out their duties with greater diligence and commitment. I urge you to make their welfare a top priority as you assume office,” he said.
