President John Dramani Mahama will swear in Commissioner of Police (COP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno as the new Inspector General of Police (IGP) today, Friday, March 14.
This follows the removal of Dr. George Akuffo Dampare from office in a major shake-up within the Ghana Police Service.
Although no official reason has been given for Dr. Dampare’s dismissal, sources indicate that the decision is part of a broader effort to restructure the leadership and operations of the police force.
Appointed in 2021, Dr. Dampare spearheaded key reforms aimed at improving public trust and security. His tenure saw increased community engagement, stricter internal discipline, and a push to professionalize the service. Security analysts have credited his leadership with reducing crime and enhancing accountability within the force.
As COP Christian Yohuno takes over as IGP, there is growing anticipation about his vision for the future of policing in Ghana.
