Mr. President, John Dramani Mahama, Hon. Kwame Governs Agbodza, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Hon. Comfort Doyoe Cudjoe- Ghansah, it is my obligation as a citizen to seek development for my country. As Ghana continues to grow and develop, its road and other infrastructure must keep pace to support the country's economic and social progress. Two critical roads that require urgent attention are the Accra-Aflao and Se-Mepe roads. This article highlights the importance of expanding and reconstructing these roads and urges the Government of Ghana make these roads a priority.
The Sege- Mepe Road - A Lifeline for Local Communities
As a native of the area, I wish to humbly remind you that, Sege -Mepe road is a critical route that connects the Ada West District to the North Tongu District, serving as the only path where sick people from other regions and towns visiting Battor Catholic Hospital and natives from the towns along it use. This road was constructed by the Rawlings Administration in 1995 thereabout and about 30 years now, the road is now virtually a rough, dusty and bumpy road with its attendant difficulties for motorists who ply it. Suffice it to say that the current state of the road is in disrepair, with:
- Poor road surfaces and inadequate drainage.
- Limited access to basic services and amenities.
- Frequent accidents and vehicle damage.
Reconstructing the Sege-Mepe road would bring numerous benefits, including:
- Improved access to healthcare, education, and other essential services.
- Enhanced economic opportunities for local communities, particularly in the agricultural and fishing sectors.
- Reduced travel times and improved overall efficiency.
- Increased safety and reduced accidents.
The Accra-Aflao Road - A Gateway to Economic Growth
The Accra-Aflao road is a vital transportation artery that connects the capital city to the eastern border with Togo. This road is not only crucial for domestic trade but also serves as a key route for regional and international commerce. However, the current state of the road is woefully inadequate, characterized by:
- Congested and narrow lanes.
- Poor road surfaces, leading to frequent accidents and vehicle damage.
- Insufficient drainage.
Expanding the Accra-Aflao road would have numerous benefits, including but not limited to:
Improved safety and reduced accidents, enhanced trade and commerce between Ghana and neighboring countries, increased economic opportunities for communities along the route and reduced travel times and improved overall efficiency.
The Accra-Aflao and Sege - Mepe roads are critical road infrastructural projects that require urgent attention. Accordingly, we urge the Government of Ghana to prioritize the expansion and reconstruction of these roads, ensuring that they are designed and constructed to meet the needs of the 21st century.
By investing in these critical infrastructural projects, Ghana can:
- Unlock its full economic potential.
- Drive economic growth and development.
- Improve the lives of its citizens.
- Enhance its competitiveness in the regional and global economy.
Conclusion
The expansion of the Accra-Aflao road and the reconstruction of the Sege to Mepe road are critical infrastructure projects that require immediate attention. I call on the Government of Ghana to take action and prioritize the development of these roads. Together, we can build a better Ghana for all its citizens.
