The National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) has taken former Deputy Executive Director of the National Service Scheme (NSS), Gifty Oware-Mensah, into custody.
Reports indicate that she was arrested on Friday, March 7, 2025, and has since been denied bail. Some sources allege that she has been moved to an undisclosed location, with her husband reportedly denied access to her.
On February 4, 2025, a video surfaced showing Oware-Mensah arriving at Kotoka International Airport amid reports that she had gone into hiding as the NIB intensified its investigations.
Sources suggested she had been in Morocco with the female national football team in her capacity as Chairperson of the Management Committee and had planned to return with the team to cooperate with authorities.
She has been heavily implicated in the NSS ghost name scandal, with reports alleging that she facilitated the payment of allowances into the accounts of 81,885 nonexistent service personnel.
Oware-Mensah was expected to present herself for investigation, but her current detention raises further questions about the ongoing probe.
