As Ghana marks its 68th Independence Anniversary, the Minerals Development Fund (MDF) has reiterated its commitment to ensuring that the nation’s mineral wealth translates into meaningful socio-economic development.
In a statement commemorating the occasion, the Acting Administrator of MDF, Dr. Hanna Louisa Bisiw-Kotei, said the fund is dedicated to responsible mineral resource management, transparency, and equitable distribution of benefits from Ghana’s mining sector.
“Independence signifies not just our political sovereignty but also our commitment to economic growth, sustainable development, and the well-being of our people. At MDF, we remain steadfast in our mandate to ensure that mineral wealth contributes meaningfully to the socio-economic development of mining communities and the nation as a whole,” she stated.
She emphasized MDF’s strategic investments in infrastructure, education, healthcare, and livelihood programs, all aimed at empowering communities and shaping a sustainable future for generations to come.
The Minerals Development Fund was established in 2016 during President Mahama's first term to channel financial resources directly into mining communities.
The fund supports traditional and local government authorities within mining areas, as well as institutions responsible for the sector's development.
“As we commemorate this historic day, we reaffirm our dedication to responsible mineral resource management, transparency, and equitable distribution of mining benefits. Together, let us continue to work towards a Ghana where the blessings of our natural resources translate into lasting progress for all,” the statement said.
