Ernest Adomako, the Member of Parliament for Okaikwei South in the Greater Accra Region, has launched a significant renovation project aimed at transforming public schools within the constituency.
The GH¢79.5 million project dubbed the "Public Schools Renovation Project," aims to improve the learning environment for more than 8,000 students and 350 teachers by renovating the infrastructure of 20 public schools.
The Bishop School in Bubiashie will be the primary focus of the initiative, which is being led by the Adomako Dream Project in collaboration with the Ga Mantse Foundation.
Awudome Cluster, Police Depot Cluster, Kingsway Cluster, Kaneshie North, Kaneshie 1 Compound, Kaneshie Methodist Cluster, Rev. Thomas Clegg, St. Joseph Anglican, Bishop Boys, Cable & Wireless Cluster, and Bubiashie 1&2 are other beneficiary schools.
The MP emphasized the need for updated facilities to support students' academic development and reaffirmed his commitment to enhancing education in the constituency.
“Education is the foundation of development and the key to unlocking opportunities. Our children deserve nothing but the best. This initiative is not just about fixing schools; we are building a brighter and prosperous future for the next generation of leaders, innovators, and change-makers,” he said in his address.
According to the MP for Okaikwei South, public schools in the area have long suffered from old facilities, inadequate infrastructure, and uninspiring learning environments.
These problems he noted, will be resolved by the renovation project, which will improve school infrastructure in significant ways.
The MP noted that he would personally pay for the project's initial phase. According to him, he intended to seek additional funding from donor organizations and corporate institutions for the other subsequent phases.
“We are not just fixing schools; we are creating an environment that enables students to thrive and teachers to excel,” Adomako said.
These include painting and beautifying buildings, installing secure fencing around school grounds, replacing outdated furniture, and setting up well-stocked libraries and ICT centers.
To enhance the educational experience of the pupils, the initiative will incorporate agricultural activities including gardening and livestock programs.
The renovation will also include motivational packages for teachers, as well as measures to improve the security and accessibility of school facilities.
The launch event, held at the Bishop School, was attended by key figures including Ga Mantse King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu, Accra Metro Director of Education Justine Ivy Apawu, and other dignitaries.
