Ofori-Atta has always been transparent; he’s not a fugitive — NPP slams OSP

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has rubbished the declaration of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta as a wanted fugitive by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).

The party insists that Mr. Ofori-Atta has always availed himself in every case his name has been mentioned, including the failed vote of censure in 2022 and the Eurobond conflict of interest probe by the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ).

Addressing a press conference at the party’s headquarters in Accra on Thursday, February 13, NPP National Organizer Henry Nana Boakye described the fugitive label as false and an embarrassment to the nation’s reputation.

“Mr. Ofori-Atta’s history of openness and cooperation reinforces his commitment to upholding the highest standards of integrity. Mr. Ofori-Atta can never be a fugitive. He is not a fugitive, and he will never be a fugitive. The OSP got it wrong.

“Once the doctors declare him fit and healthy, he will return to the country. Until then, the Special Prosecutor should avoid making sensational statements, provoking public emotions, and creating drama over a matter that could have been adequately resolved through correspondence,” said Nana B.

He added, “If you label your former finance minister as a fugitive, which indeed is not so, what you are doing is creating a national embarrassment.”

Speaking at a media briefing in Accra on Wednesday, February 12, Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng vowed to use every legal means to bring Mr. Ofori-Atta back to the country to answer questions related to the SML contract scandal, the National Cathedral project, the Ambulance scandal, and other corruption-related matters.
