The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has taken a swipe at the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) over what it described as an act of unreasonability in the agency’s ongoing investigations involving former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.
The Office of the Special Prosecutor has vowed to ensure that Ken Ofori-Atta returns to Ghana to answer questions regarding his alleged involvement in financial irregularities.
The former minister, who has been declared a wanted fugitive, reportedly left the country at the beginning of 2025 for medical reasons.
According to Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng, Mr. Ofori-Atta’s lawyers wrote to the OSP, expressing their willingness to provide any relevant documents while their client stays abroad indefinitely.
Speaking at a media briefing in Accra on Wednesday, February 12, Mr. Kissi Agyebeng insisted that Mr. Ofori-Atta must personally appear to respond to questions related to the SML contract scandal, the National Cathedral project, the Ambulance Spare Parts scandal, and two other matters.
But in a counter-press conference on Thursday, February 13, the NPP’s National Organizer, Henry Nana Boakye, cited how Mr. Kissi Agyebeng reportedly traveled to the United Kingdom to interview Samuel Adam Mahama, a brother of President John Mahama, over the Airbus scandal.
The party urged the anti-graft body to do the same for the former minister if it claims it cannot wait for his return.
“You recall that there was another matter the OSP was investigating — the famous Airbus scandal — involving intermediaries. Mr. Kissi Agyebeng told us in August last year that he traveled all the way to the UK to interview Sam Mahama, John Mahama’s brother, who was intermediary five. So, what stops him from doing the same in this case?
“This is someone saying, ‘I am seeking medical attention.’ The health facility wrote a letter to the OSP. It was signed, dated, and authentic. If you believe you need the person badly for your investigation, just as you traveled to the UK to interview Sam Mahama, what stops you from doing the same for the former finance minister? What is so urgent that you cannot wait?” Nana B quizzes.

Nana B. I think you're a lawyer, but more significantly, you spent eight years working for the NPP, the previous government. You had plenty of time to conduct the probe if you wanted to hold the current president accountable for any Airbus scandal for which he was not formally indicted. You see, when NPP politicians want to show Ghanaians that they are smart, they sometimes make fun of themselves. Did you read as stated in the "Agyapadie book? It is written that there is no sufficient...
