You either return to Ghana voluntarily or we force your return — OSP cautions ‘wanted fugitive’ Ken Ofori-Atta

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has vowed to ensure that former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta returns to Ghana to answer questions regarding his alleged involvement in financial irregularities.

The former minister, who has been declared a wanted fugitive, is reported to have fled the country at the beginning of 2025 for alleged medical reasons.

According to Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng, Mr. Ofori-Atta’s lawyers wrote to the OSP, expressing their willingness to provide any relevant documents while their client’s stay abroad indefinitely.

Speaking at a media briefing in Accra on Wednesday, February 12, Mr. Kissi Agyebeng insisted that Mr. Ofori-Atta must personally appear to respond to questions related to the SML scandal, the National Cathedral project, the Ambulance Spare Parts scandal, and other matters.

“We are convinced that the real intention of Mr. Ofori-Atta is what was communicated to the OSP in the first letter transmitted by his lawyers on 31 January 2025—that is, he has left the jurisdiction indefinitely. Mr. Ofori-Atta has no intention of willingly returning to the jurisdiction. That much is clear.

“Consequently, the OSP declares Kenneth Nana Yaw Ofori-Atta a wanted person, being a fugitive from justice. The OSP will take all necessary legal steps to secure his return to the jurisdiction and attendance at the OSP,” Mr. Agyebeng stated.

He added, “Mr. Ofori-Atta, you have two choices. You can either return to the jurisdiction voluntarily, or the OSP will enforce your return.”

Meanwhile, reports emerged that Mr. Ofori-Atta’s residence was raided by men in military uniform on Tuesday, February 11.

Addressing the incident at the press conference, the Special Prosecutor described it as a staged act aimed at evading justice.

“Our intelligence indicates that the purported raid on Mr. Ofori-Atta’s residence was staged, or at best an impostor action, in an attempt to discredit the OSP and derail the investigation,” he said.
