The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has responded to reports of an alleged raid on the residence of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta by some uniformed military men, police, and officers in plain cloth.
According to the OSP, Mr. Ofori-Atta’s lawyers have written to inquire whether the raid was sanctioned by their office.
However, speaking at a press conference in Accra on Wednesday, February 12, Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng clarified that his office had no involvement in the incident.
He emphasized that the OSP has a more structured and legal approach to conducting searches.
He accused Mr. Ofori-Atta, who has been declared a wanted fugitive, of staging the raid to court public sympathy and derail ongoing investigations against him.
“Mr. Ofori-Atta, the OSP did not raid your house on Tuesday, 11 February 2025, or on any other day. The OSP did not cause any persons, however uniformed or bedecked, to raid your house on Tuesday, 11 February 2025, or on any other day.
“That could not have been the OSP, and that is not our style. If the OSP enters your premises, you will not be in doubt as to whether it was the OSP, and your lawyers would not have cause to inquire,” Mr. Agyebeng stated.
“Our intelligence indicates that the purported raid on Mr. Ofori-Atta’s residence was staged, or at best an impostor action, aimed at discrediting the OSP and derailing the investigation.
“The OSP is not deterred by such occurrences, and the investigations will continue as prescribed by law,” he added.
