Mr Abraham Koomson, a seasoned unionist, has called on the Inspector General of Police to immediately arrest the Minority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, for allegedly inciting violence during a campaign engagement at Ablekuma North.

“Mr Annoh-Dompreh called on New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters to mobilize and physically assault and beat up any member of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) anytime they see any in a fight with an NPP member without even understanding the cause of the fight,” This is unacceptable Mr Koomson noted.

Speaking to newsmen in Tema at the weekend, Mr Koomson, who is the Secretary General of the Ghana Federation of Labour, urged the National Investigation Bureau (NIB), the Ghana Police Service, and National Security to take immediate action against Mr Annoh-Dompreh.

He warned that failure to act could set a dangerous precedent, leading to widespread lawlessness and threatening the country's stability.

Mr Koomson condemned the reckless statement and pronouncement by Mr Annoh-Dompreh, questioning how a Member of Parliament could make such a remark, describing that act as having malicious intent, and characteristics of elements within the NPP to spread false information, causing fear and panic among the populace.

“These actions not only disrupt the peace but also incite people to commit crimes, leading to a breakdown in law and order. It is unacceptable for someone elected to be a member of parliament to act and call on people to commit the crime,” Mr Koomson, a seasoned Unionist, stated.

Mr Koomson, who is also a seasoned political analyst, noted that the repercussions of such actions are far-reaching and devastating.

“When false information is disseminated, it can lead to widespread panic, causing individuals to take irrational actions that put themselves and others at risk. This can result in the destruction of property, injury, and even loss of life.

“Moreover, inciting fear and panic can also erode trust in institutions, creating an atmosphere of mistrust and suspicion. This can have long-term consequences for the social fabric of the nation, making it challenging to build a cohesive and harmonious society,” Mr Koomson stated.

The seasoned unionist explained that in the face of such incidents and detestable behaviour by Mr Annoh-Dompreh, it is essential that those responsible are held accountable for their actions.

He stressed that the perpetrators of such evil acts, including Mr Annoh-Dompreh, must be arrested and brought to justice, serving as a deterrent to others who may contemplate similar actions.

“Law enforcement agencies must take a proactive approach in identifying and apprehending those who engage in spreading false information and inciting fear and panic. The judiciary must also play its part in ensuring that those found guilty are punished accordingly,” Mr Koomson stated.

The GFL Secretary General noted that citizens also have a crucial role to play in preventing the spread of false information and promoting a culture of truth and accountability.

He said citizens, irrespective of their status in society, must be responsible, stressing that inciting fear and panic is a serious offence that can have devastating consequences for individuals and society as a whole.

“It is essential that those responsible, including Mr Annoh-Dompreh, are held accountable, and citizens play their part in promoting a culture of truth and accountability,” he stated.

Mr Koomson reiterated that the Inspector General of Police and the national security architecture must be proactive and arrest Mr. Annoh-Dompreh immediately.
