President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Ayawaso West Wuogon Member of Parliament, John Setor Dumelo, as the deputy minister for food and agriculture.
The appointment, announced in a formal communication from the presidency on Wednesday, February 5, was in accordance with Articles 78(1) and 79(1) of the 1992 Constitution.
The list includes 12 other deputy minister nominees, such as Dr. Clement Apaak for education and Ernest Brogya Genfi as deputy defence minister.
“President John Dramani Mahama has, in accordance with Articles 78(1) and 79(1) of the Constitution, submitted the names of the underlisted to Parliament, through the Speaker, for prior approval to serve as deputy ministers,” the statement signed by the acting spokesperson to the president, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, read in part.
John Dumelo is a Ghanaian actor and farmer who advocates for youth involvement in agriculture.
He owns over 2,000 acres of farmland in the country, having ventured into farming in 2012, and has often spoken about the importance of agriculture to the country’s economy.
In his new portfolio, John Dumelo will be serving under Eric Opoku, the substantive minister for the sector.
