As politicians national interest must always supersede personal ambition — Bawumia

Former Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has emphasized that the national interest should always take precedence over personal interests.

He made this known when H.E. Charles Abani, United Nations Resident Coordinator in Ghana, visited him at his residence in Accra.

The 2024 flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) said, “I reiterated my conviction that, as politicians, national interest must always supersede personal ambition.”

On his part, H.E. Charles Abani, who delivered a message to the former Vice President on behalf of the United Nations appreciated Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s contributions to Ghana’s peace, democracy, and development.

He mentioned that his early concession during the 2024 election was exemplary.

H.E. Charles Abani highlighted Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s vision and initiatives for Ghana’s digital economic transformation, which he championed as Vice President.

Bawumia, making the visit known via his social media, said “This morning, I welcomed a delegation led by H.E. Charles Abani, United Nations Resident Coordinator in Ghana, to my residence.

“H.E. Abani, delivered a message on behalf of the United Nations, expressing appreciation for my contributions to Ghana’s peace, democracy and development. H.E. Charles Abani particularly highlighted my vision and initiatives for Ghana’s digital economic transformation I championed as Vice-President and my early concession in the 2024 elections.

“I reiterated my conviction that, as Politicians, national interest must always supersede personal ambition. My thanks to the UN for their kind words and support for Ghana’s progress.”
