The President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E John Dramani Mahama has recommended that the African Union must depart from the over-reliance on external partners for funding.
According to him, the overreliance on funding from external partners compromises the African Union’s independence.
Addressing a high-level summit on AU institutional reforms in Nairobi, President John Dramani proposed that Africa must embrace mechanisms that will ensure every resource is maximised for the benefit of the African people.
“The over-reliance on external partners for funding compromises the African Union’s independence and ability to set its own agenda.
“Efficiency must be the guiding principle in how we conduct our affairs, ensuring that our policies translate into real change for our people.
“We must adopt mechanisms that prioritize accountability, transparency, and value for money, ensuring that every resource is maximized for the benefit of the African people,” President John Dramani Mahama said.
While President John Dramani Mahama acknowledged the AU’s achievements, including the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and its contributions to peace and security, he raised concerns about some challenges such as youth unemployment.
He proposed that the various countries on the continent must come up with solutions for all the challenges, adding that it is key to development.
