Broadcast journalist Kwame Tanko has opened up about his unexpected departure from Angel FM, attributing his long-standing tenure at the station to a close bond with business mogul Dr. Kweku Oteng.
According to Tanko, he never envisioned leaving Angel FM, as he believed his relationship with Oteng made his position at the station unshakable.
“I told my friends that I’d never leave Angel FM. I thought my connection with Dr. Oteng was solid enough to keep me there forever,” he revealed during an interview on the Asetena Pa show with Akoto Mansa. However, events unfolded that challenged this belief, leading to his eventual exit.
Tanko recounted his final days at Angel FM, sharing details of a heartfelt conversation with Dr. Oteng. “He asked me what it would take for me to stay at Angel FM. It was a genuine discussion, but ultimately, I decided to move on,” Tanko stated.
Despite the significance of this exchange, he chose not to delve into the exact reasons behind his departure, leaving fans and colleagues speculating.
When asked about his public feud with US-based Ghanaian journalist Kevin Taylor, Tanko declined to comment. Taylor had previously criticized Tanko on several occasions, but the broadcaster opted to remain silent on the matter, fueling further interest like their disagreements.
Shifting the conversation to politics, Tanko expressed his surprise at the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) unexpected losses in the 2024 elections. “I didn’t see it coming,” he admitted, reflecting on the party’s significant electoral setbacks.
