The Ghana Federation of Labour (GFL) has issued a warning to the Majority in Parliament, urging them to remain vigilant as the ‘micro’ minority adopts what it describes as "obstructive, diabolical, and unparliamentary methods" to undermine the government's goodwill with the public.
According to GFL Secretary General Mr. Abraham Koomson, the minority is employing tactics such as "flowering messages" and "deliberate provocative sound bites" to divert media attention away from critical parliamentary activities. Speaking in an interview in Tema, Mr. Koomson described these actions as a calculated attempt to discredit the NDC government and the Majority in Parliament.
The Secretary General further disclosed that the minority plans to leak privileged information through various platforms, including parliamentary debates, committee meetings, and press briefings. He warned that such actions are intended to embarrass the government and sow confusion among the public.
Mr. Koomson also alleged that former government functionaries are collaborating with the minority to achieve their objectives. He stressed that this could have serious implications for the nation’s stability and democratic progress.
He cautioned that the minority’s tactics might go beyond mere rhetoric. “The majority in Parliament and the Presidency must be vigilant, as the minority, like a wounded lion, seeks to employ misinformation and disinformation to discredit the new government,” he stated.
Mr. Koomson accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) leadership of attempting to divert attention from the progress of the current government, following their party’s defeat in the last election. He urged the majority not to underestimate the minority’s strategic efforts to embarrass the government and obscure the shortcomings of the previous administration.
The GFL Secretary General emphasized the need for the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) and other democratic stakeholders to remain vigilant and critically monitor the opposition’s actions as the political landscape evolves.
Mr. Koomson’s remarks underscored the importance of media literacy and critical thinking in distinguishing fact from fiction. He called on democratic forces, civil society organizations, the media, and labor unions to remain alert to what they perceive as deliberate attempts to undermine the government’s goodwill with the public.
