Founding President of IMANI Africa, Franklin Cudjoe, has lauded President John Dramani Mahama’s nomination of Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson as Finance Minister-designate, describing it as a sensible appointment.
In a social media post on Friday, January 10, 2025, Mr. Cudjoe expressed confidence in Dr. Forson’s ability to succeed in the finance portfolio, citing his engagement with him during a British government-led economic programme last year.
“I had an opportunity to engage Ato Forson up close to discuss what must be done to prevent further damage to our jalopy economy,” Mr. Cudjoe recounted.
He noted that the encounter convinced him of the nominee’s competence in managing Ghana’s fiscal challenges.
According to Mr. Cudjoe, Dr. Forson demonstrated practical knowledge during discussions on the Financial and Economic Resilience in Ghana (FERG) programme, which aims to tackle the country’s fiscal and macroeconomic instability.
“The interaction was eye-opening and worth every second of the two-hour encounter. I was convinced that Hon. Ato Forson had earned the stripes to be a successful Finance Minister,” Mr. Cudjoe stated.
He further disclosed that he will support the release of £5 million from the FERG programme to help strengthen the Finance Ministry’s budget preparation and debt management efforts under Dr. Forson’s leadership.
President Mahama submitted the nomination of Dr. Ato Forson, an economist and five-term lawmaker, to Parliament on Thursday, January 9, 2025. The nominee is expected to bring his expertise in public finance and fiscal policy to bear on Ghana’s economic management.
