The Electoral Commission (EC) has affirmed Faustina Elikplim Akurugu as the Member-Elect for Dome Kwabenya Constituency.
She was declared the winner of the 2024 parliamentary election on December 8 after a prolonged collation of results.
Her declaration was rejected by the EC due to some disputed polling station results.
The EC subsequently announced a re-run of the disputed polling station, Abokobi Women Training Center.
However, after days of controversies, the EC has reconciled with the figures and affirmed Fautina Elikplim Akurugu as the winner, denouncing the earlier announcement of a re-run.
At a short ceremony today December 31 at the EC office, the Returning Officer affirmed the earlier declaration.
Elikplim Akurugu polled 50,967 votes beating NPP's Parliamentary Candidate Mike Oquaye Jnr who also polled 50,699 votes.
In an emergency meeting of the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC), on Tuesday, the EC Chairperson, Jean Mensa, confirmed the decision, stating that the electoral process in the Dome Kwabenya Constituency had reached its conclusion.
“Today, we are pleased to announce that the proceedings and collation at the Dome Kwabenya Constituency have come to a close. It has gone full circle, and we are convinced beyond any shadow of a doubt that the outcome reflects the will of the people as expressed at the polls.
“Ours is not to make anybody president or MP. Ours is to ensure that our outcome and processes guarantee that the people’s choice is upheld,” she affirmed.
