The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has expelled Agona West Member of Parliament, Cynthia Morrison, following her decision to contest the December 7, 2024, general election as an independent candidate, opposing the party's official nominee.
In addition to Cynthia Morrison's expulsion, 279 other party members have been dismissed for supporting her independent bid.
These actions stem from allegations that Morrison and her supporters violated party protocols by breaking ranks after her defeat in the NPP's internal primaries.
A letter issued by constituency chairman Alhaji Gibrine Tanko informed the expelled members that they are no longer recognised as part of the NPP.
The letter also stated that they are barred from holding any party position, participating in party events, or using the NPP’s symbols and flag.
“This decision was made unanimously at the Expanded Constituency Executive Committee meeting held on Sunday, 15th December 2024,” part of the letter said.
This development underscores the NPP's firm stance against members who contravene party directives, especially during critical election periods.
