The management of Ekumfi Fruits and Juice Limited has lauded President-elect John Dramani Mahama for showcasing their products during his Thanksgiving service, a gesture they believe highlights the importance of patronizing locally made goods.
In a statement of gratitude, the company’s management emphasized the president-elect’s role in fostering economic growth and promoting Ghanaian-made products. Ekumfi Fruits and Juice Limited was the first factory established under outgoing President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s flagship ‘One District, One Factory’ (1D1F) initiative.
Speaking to the media, the Chief Agronomist of Ekumfi Fruits and Juice Limited Farm, Kankam Biney, appealed to the incoming administration to continue supporting the factory. He stressed the factory’s critical role in driving economic activity within the Ekumfi District and creating jobs for residents.
“The Ekumfi Factory, with a workforce of 700 employees, has significantly alleviated poverty and unemployment in the Ekumfi District and its environs. With the right assistance, we can expand and employ even more people,” Mr. Biney stated.
He expressed gratitude to the outgoing president for the 1D1F initiative, which, he noted, has been instrumental in boosting local employment and economic growth.
Looking ahead, Mr. Biney revealed the factory’s eagerness to collaborate with the president-elect’s proposed ‘24-hour economy’ policy to increase production and meet growing market demand.
“As it stands, we are producing below capacity. While the factory is designed to cultivate between 7,000 and 9,000 acres of pineapple, we are currently farming only 1,500 acres. This limits our ability to produce enough juice to satisfy market demand,” he explained.
Mr. Biney acknowledged the public’s appreciation for the factory’s fresh fruit juice but noted recurring complaints about its scarcity in the market. “This is because we lack sufficient raw materials to feed the factory, which impacts our production output.”
He expressed optimism about the incoming administration’s policies and their potential to help the factory reach its full production capacity, which could increase its workforce from 700 to 6,000 employees.
“We are ready to embrace any new policy that supports our operations and allows us to meet peak production. With adequate support, Ekumfi Fruits and Juice Limited can play a more significant role in Ghana’s industrial and economic transformation,” he concluded.
