
Alexander Ato Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, the incumbent Member of Parliament for Effutu and the Majority Leader in Parliament, has been re-elected after securing a decisive victory over his challengers.
Afenyo-Markin garnered 39,512 votes out of the 59,623 total votes cast, while Dr. James Kofi Annan of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) obtained 19,383 votes. Louisa Buabeng, an independent candidate, managed just 81 votes.
The Majority Leader beats his close contender Dr. James Kofi Annan of the opposition NDC by 20,129 votes.
In the presidential race within the constituency, former President John Dramani Mahama of the NDC secured 25,127 votes, while Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) recorded 32,200 votes. A total of 1,348 ballots were rejected.
Following his victory, Afenyo-Markin expressed gratitude to God for his success and thanked his constituency executives and supporters for their unwavering trust in his leadership. He attributed his win to the growing confidence of the Effutu people in his efforts to implement projects aimed at improving their lives. He pledged to work even harder to meet the aspirations of the constituency and called on his opponents to join him in fostering unity and development.
Dr. James Kofi Annan, the NDC parliamentary candidate, expressed gratitude to God for guiding him through the election and commended his party’s members and supporters for their dedication. He encouraged them to maintain their composure and avoid actions that could disrupt the peace in Effutu.
As the dust settles, the call for unity and cooperation among political stakeholders remains critical to advancing the development of the Effutu constituency.
