The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has petitioned the Omanhene of Effutu Traditional, Neenyi Ghartey VII, over an alleged misconduct of the Municipal Chief Executive of the Effutu Municipal and the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The NDC said their actions could plunge the constituency into chaos.

During a massive protest by members of the party, party secretary, Mr Abraham Henry Arthur, said the MCE and members of the ruling party on different occasions pulled down billboards belonging to the NDC.

On Thursday, September 12, the NDC alleged that the MCE, Mr Zubairu Kassim, led a group to pull down its billboards at Ntakorfamu, a suburb of Effutu over claims of permit violations.

However, subsequently a group of NPP members were reported to have pulled down various billboards at vantage points such as the entrance of the North Campus of UEW, the Ahmadiyya junction on the Winneba-Accra highway, New Winneba and Sankor junction.

“This deliberate misconduct by the chief executive and the entire NPP in the constituency poses threat to the peace of the constituency as retaliatory acts by the NDC could plunge the constituency into serious conflict,” he said.

He raised concerns of over 3,009 discrepancies in the Effutu voters’ register.

In thee petition, the party wants the Omanhene’s intervention to address matters and call for a full scale investigation into how nomination forms of the NDC PC and the independent candidate were allegedly leaked to the MP.

The NDC wants him to call the MCE to order otherwise the party would be forced to defend and protect it interests through any legitimate means.
