Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has pledged to construct a sea defence system and a mini harbour for the people of Sege if he is elected as the next President of Ghana.
Bawumia said his promise is aimed at addressing the devastating impact of tidal waves that have plagued Sege and its surrounding areas for years, as well as fostering economic growth by improving infrastructure for the local fishing industry.
Speaking to a gathering of chiefs, traditional leaders, and the people of Sege during his tour of the Greater Accra Region, Bawumia highlighted the urgent need for development in the coastal town.
The NPP’s flagbearer stated that Sege's strategic position as a fishing hub requires critical infrastructure to protect the livelihoods of its residents and enable the community to thrive economically.
He emphasised that constructing a mini harbour would be an essential step toward modernising the fishing industry in Sege, facilitating better trade and market access for fishermen and traders.
“We need a mini-harbour. So we are going to work on bringing a mini harbour to Sege here for you and that is a very important thing. And then, of course, very important, we need to do the sea defence for this area.
“So I have a lot to do for you. If I come back in four years, I will have to give an account of what I have done with the sea defence.”
