On August 30, 2024, Naana Donkor Arthur conducted a pre-fundraiser interview with the executives of The Council of Bono-Ahafo Associations of North America (COBAANA) to discuss their core mission and their current initiative to build a clinic in Sunyani, Ghana.
The next day's fundraiser was dedicated to supporting this project.
COBAANA is a union of Bono-Ahafo people living in North America, formed with the purpose of addressing the welfare concerns of their community both at home and abroad. The organization is committed to aiding the Bono-Ahafo region in Ghana through various developmental projects, including providing amenities that would otherwise fall under the government's responsibility. COBAANA seeks to unify all Bono-Ahafo people in North America for the greater good of their homeland.
During the interview, Naana Donkor Arthur focused on the specifics of the clinic COBAANA aims to build. Oseadeyo Agyeman Badu II, the King of Dormaa, explained that the clinic would be equipped with dialysis machines and medical supplies to treat kidney-related diseases. This initiative stems from the pressing need for better healthcare facilities in the Bono-Ahafo region, particularly for those suffering from kidney complications. The lack of adequate dialysis machines and other essential healthcare resources in Sunyani has prompted COBAANA to take action.
COBAANA’s goal is to reduce the death toll from kidney diseases in the Bono-Ahafo area by providing necessary medical equipment, including Hemodialysis pumps, perfusion machines, and devices for ex vivo preservation of renal grafts under normothermic conditions. The project also includes periodic health campaigns to educate the local population on kidney health and other critical healthcare issues, as outlined in COBAANA's health project plan.
The fundraiser, themed "The Health of Our People Is Our Concern," was a three-day event that brought together various Bono-Ahafo associations from across the United States, Canada, and North America. Friday's activities included a ferry ride to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, along with a talent show dubbed "COBAANA Got Talent," featuring entertainment competitions.
The main fundraiser event took place on Saturday, August 31, 2024, with the goal of collecting donations to kickstart the clinic project in Sunyani. The event concluded on Sunday with a picnic and feast in Newark, New Jersey.
Key dignitaries who were publicized to attend the event included Osagyefo Oseadeyo Dr. Agyemang Badu II (Dormaa Hene), Nana Kwame Baffoe (Nkoranzaman Hene), Nana Bofobene V (Dweneman Hene), Nana Kwasi Bosomprah (Omanhene of the Goaso traditional area), and Dr. Nick Danso Adjei (CEO of Ghana Link Network Service).
Osagyefo Oseadeyo Dr. Agyemang Badu II and Nana Odeneho Afram Frimpong III (Somaman Hene) participated in the interview with Naana Donkor Arthur. Through her significant social media influence, Naana Donkor Arthur played a crucial role in publicizing the event and highlighting COBAANA's mission.
