The Flowerpot Interchange Project, a major road infrastructure project meant to ease traffic congestion in some sections of the Accra-Tema Motorway, is nearly completed, according to an update from the Ministry of Roads and Highways.
In a statement released on Friday, August 30, the ministry revealed that construction on the flyover component of the project is now 92% complete.
It is expected to be fully completed by the end of October 2024.
Once completed, the interchange is designed to improve travel for commuters moving between the northern and southern sections of the Accra-Tema Motorway.
It will also reduce congestion at the busy Flowerpot intersection along Spintex Road.
"The project seeks to improve the lives of people and commuters travelling from the North to the South Sections of the Accra-Tema Motorway, reduce congestion at the Flowerpot Intersection along the Spintex Road and serve as a direct route to Accra East from Burma Camp and its environs to East Legon and vis versa," the ministry stated.
President Nana Akufo-Addo inspected the construction site on Thursday, accompanied by Minister of Roads and Highways Francis Asenso Boakye and Finance Minister Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam.
According to the statement, the President said he was "satisfied with the quality of work done."
