The Media Foundation for West Africa’s (MFWA) groundbreaking accountability journalism project, The Fourth Estate, has been honored as the 2024 global winner in the Media and Information category at the prestigious World Justice Challenge.
The project emerged winner out of over 400 projects from over 100 countries.
This recognition marks a significant achievement, as MFWA stands as the sole African organization among the five global winners celebrated at the awards ceremony in Chicago on August 1.
The Fourth Estate triumphed in a highly competitive category, outshining other esteemed finalists, including Article 19 (Mexico), Transparencia Venezuela (Venezuela), Foro de Periodismo (Argentina), Meydan TV (Azerbaijan), and ResPublica (Albania).
This victory underscores the project’s remarkable impact in promoting transparency, accountability, and justice through fearless journalism not only in Ghana but across West Africa.
Taking to social media to react to the award, the Executive Director of the Media Foundation for West Africa, Mr. Sulemana Braimah applauded the first Editor-in-Chief of the Fourth Estate, Manasseh Azure Awuni and the team for doing an outstanding job.
“Yesterday, at the ongoing World Justice Forum at the annual meeting of the America Bar Association, MFWA was named winner of the 2024 World Justice Challenge for the work being done through The Fourth Estate Project. Kudos to our first Editor-in-chief, Manasseh, and the team,” Mr. Sulemana Braimah said in a post on X.
