The National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi has warned about impending scrutiny against officials of the current administration should the opposition party return to power.
The warning issued via a social media post on Thursday, August 8, comes after former President and NDC flagbearer John Mahama was cleared of the Airbus bribery scandal by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).
To him, the same way the former President and the NDC tolerated the scrutiny, the ruling NPP should be prepared to tolerate whatever comes their way should they lose the December 7, elections.
“Let it be on record that John Dramani Mahama, a former Vice President and former President of the republic, has subjected himself to investigations by a statutory anti-corruption body and has come out unscathed,” he reacted
“Let no one cry foul when Akufo-Addo and Bawumia are subjected to the same standard of accountability post 7th January, 2025,” he warned.
According to the OSP report, the investigation found "no evidence that former President Mahama was involved or played any role in the procurement and maintenance of the agency relationship between Airbus and Foster and his associates in respect of the purchase by the Government of Ghana of military transport aircraft from Airbus."
“And it appears to the OSP that the direct communications and meetings between former President Mahama and officials of Airbus to close the deal were actuated by good intentions on the part of the former,” it added.
Additionally, the report said it found "no evidentiary basis that suggests that former President John Dramani Mahama or any other public official was induced to improperly favour or did improperly favour Airbus in respect of the purchase by the Government of Ghana of military transport aircraft from Airbus."
The Special Prosecutor therefore directed the closure of the investigation and said the OSP "would not institute criminal proceedings against any person in respect of this investigation."
