The National Democratic Congress (NDC) National Communication Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, has reacted to John Dramani Mahama, the party's flagbearer’s exoneration from the Airbus scandal.
The former President has been completely cleared of any wrongdoing in the Airbus bribery scandal by the Office of Special Prosecutor's (OSP) investigations.
In a social media post reacting to the OSP report on Thursday, August 8, Sammy Gyamfi said: "Lies they say, have a short life span. And vindication they say, is in the womb of time.”
“Once again, H.E. John Dramani Mahama has been vindicated, as the Office of Special Prosecutor has exonerated him of any wrongdoing in the Airbus saga,” he added.
The NDC Communications Officer added that "John Mahama remains squeaky clean with unblemished integrity. Certainly, John Mahama is the incorruptible leader Ghana needs to win the fight against corruption."
According to the OSP report, the investigation found "no evidence that former President Mahama was involved or played any role in the procurement and maintenance of the agency relationship between Airbus and Foster and his associates in respect of the purchase by the Government of Ghana of military transport aircraft from Airbus."
“And it appears to the OSP that the direct communications and meetings between former President Mahama and officials of Airbus to close the deal were actuated by good intentions on the part of the former,” it added.
Additionally, the report said it found "no evidentiary basis that suggests that former President John Dramani Mahama or any other public official was induced to improperly favour or did improperly favour Airbus in respect of the purchase by the Government of Ghana of military transport aircraft from Airbus."
The Special Prosecutor therefore directed the closure of the investigation and said the OSP "would not institute criminal proceedings against any person in respect of this investigation."
This according to Sammy Gyamfi, means the "evil smear agenda" against Mahama by the Akufo-Addo government has failed.
