Gender Ministry to develop social protection systems to protect most vulnerable

The Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection (MoGCSP) has inaugurated Technical Working Committees to develop a comprehensive national social protection shock response strategy.

The committees will also be responsible for assessing the status of Social Security and Insurance for Informal Sector Operators towards inclusive shock response.

The Technical Working Committee for the shock response strategy is expected to design a framework that will ensure a timely and well-coordinated response to protect vulnerable Ghanaians from the impacts of shocks.

The committee will engage in a series of technical working sessions to support the strategy's design, reflecting the collaborative efforts of government experts, CSOs, media and development partners.

In addition, the Technical Working Committee for scoping the status of Social Security and Insurance for Informal Sector Operators will focus on expanding social protection systems to cover informal sector operators.

The Chief Director of the Ministry, Dr Afisah Zakariah, noted that the work of the Technical Working Committees was essential in developing strategies to enhance the resilience of the social protection systems, particularly for the most vulnerable in our society.

She added, “With the collaborative efforts of our technical experts, partners and stakeholders, I am confident that we will establish robust frameworks to respond effectively to shocks and ensure the well-being of all Ghanaians."

The committees, composed of technical experts from various sectors, will be chaired by the Chief Director underscoring the ministry's commitment to building a resilient social protection system that leaves no one behind.
