The Konor of Manya Krobo Traditional Area, Nene Sakite II, has underscored the important role of a strong and well-integrated chieftaincy institution in ensuring stability in Ghana.
The paramount chief made the comments on Monday, July 15, when NPP Vice Presidential candidate Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh paid a courtesy call on him at his palace.
Nene Sakite II embraced the NPP flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia's proposal to integrate traditional leadership structures into formal governance, describing it as "laudable".
He said, "The stability of this country depends on the stability of the chieftaincy institution".
The Konor believes aligning chiefs with modern development practices as envisioned by Dr. Bawumia will help leverage their authority and influence for national cohesion.
Dr. Opoku Prempeh, who was at the palace to assure of the party's commitment to the integration agenda, reiterated Dr. Bawumia’s promise, saying "the role of the chieftaincy institution will change, and traditional leaders will be asked to contribute meaningfully to the development of the nation".
Nene Sakite II counseled the NPP to work hard and convince Ghanaians about their plans to allow Dr. Prempeh, who hails from a royal family, to help actualize the vision as Vice President.
