The paramount chief of Savelugu traditional area, Yoo-Naa Abdulai Andani has reminded the vice president and flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and his party to fulfil the promises they made to Ghanaians.
The chief said this when speaking to the NPP flagbearer and his entourage at his palace yesterday Monday, July 15.
"If you make promises, try to fulfill them. We the Ghanaians are observing, and are interested to know the kind of promises you make to us and how you handle them as a government.
"We know there is hardship in the country. But you should know power belongs to the people. That is why you people come to us and ask for it," the chief added.
On the promise of the veterinary college reform, Yoo-Naa Abdulai told the NPP flagbearer that he has been able to engage stakeholders to commence the process which should make the work of the vice president easier.
"I have heard you on different occasions promising to convert Veterinary College into a University. I have had a meeting with the school authority, UDS and even the Ministry of Agriculture on it. And I think this should pave the way for you. So I am appealing to you to fulfill your promise," he reminded Bawumia.
In September 2020, the vice President said government intended to upgrade the Animal Health and Production College at Pong-Tamale in the Savelugu District into a University of Agriculture.
According to him, this would ensure that the study of agriculture, which is the mainstay of residents of the area, is given a boost as this will build the capacity of persons interested in the field of study; who will in turn impart the knowledge directly onto farmers.
Speaking to Naa Yakubu Abdulai Andani at his Palace in Savelugu, the Vice President underscored the significance of agriculture in the country noting that the upgrading of the institution, which is one of the oldest in the region, would make a significant impact in the lives of many.
“The Akufo-Addo government intends to upgrade the Pong-Tamale Agric College into a university to help promote the studies of Agriculture at an advanced level which will directly impact positively on food production among others,” he emphasised.
