Daughter of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Samia Nkrumah has emphasised that his father didn’t own a house.

Speaking to Joy Prime, she said although today’s Peduase Lodge could have been their family house, her father thought it should be a property of the State to receive dignitaries who visit the country.

Madam Samia Nkrumah in the interview said this exemplifies the selfness of her late father and first president of Ghana.

“A house which he built with the help of strong women supporters, entrepreneurs at the time which is today Peduase Lodge where I was born, that could have been our house. But he gave it to the state. It’s the property of the Republic of Ghana receiving dignitaries just as he wanted it to be,” Samia Nkrumah said.

She continued, “So from personal experience, we knew that our father didn’t amass wealth, our father wasn’t interested in those kinds of things. In fact, he was a leader who exemplified courage, a sense of purpose, vision, and all the things we longed for and we need to emulate in our lives. Leaders across the board. Strangely my father didn’t own a house and it was a decision he made. Everything he did was a political decision.”

Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah has been in the news this week after his legacy was compared to President Akufo-Addo’s legacy by the vice presidential candidate of the NPP, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh affectionately called NAPO.

Many Ghanaians have lambasted the former Energy and accused him of disrespect.

Political analysts and historians have argued that it is important to respect and protect the name and legacy of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah than tarnish it due to politics.

Meanwhile, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh has today apologised for his statement, explaining that it was not his intention to denigrate Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
