The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) has issued an impact-based weather warning predicting moderate to heavy rains moving into southern Ghana this afternoon.
In a statement released at 10am local time, GMet warned that a rainstorm currently observed over the Gulf of Guinea is expected to propagate inland, affecting most places in southern Ghana from late morning through the evening.
"The rainstorm is expected to affect the southeastern region this afternoon and move to southwestern Ghana later in the evening," the warning stated.
Thunderstorms are also forecast for parts of northern Ghana.
Areas expected to see rains beginning around 11am include Keta, Aflao, Dzodze, Akatsi, Ho and Greater Accra.
Communities such as Kete Krachi, Jasikan and Koforidua can expect storms from 1pm onwards.
Western North, Western and Bono regions will likely see rains developing after 2pm, impacting towns into the evening hours.
GMet cautioned that the storms could produce heavy downpours as well as gusty winds and lightning.
“An update will be released when the need be," the agency noted.
